Sacred City of Caral and Chancay Castle
Visit the Sacred City of Caral, the oldest know city in the Americas developed simultaneously with the ancient cultures of Mesopotamia and Egypt about 5000 years ago. Recent excavations revealed an elaborate complex of temples, sunken plazas and some of the largest terraced pyramids in the world. Situated 200 kilometers to the North of Lima in the fertile Supe Valley it makes a popular day trip from the capital.
On half way back to Lima we make a stop at Chancay Castle, a European style caste built on the seashore in the 1920s. It exhibits the largest collection of archaeological finds from the local Chancay Culture (incl. mummies, looms, skulls and pottery) alongside family relics and rare stuffed animals.
